Seventeen years ago

How fast the years fly by. Seventeen years ago today was Easter Sunday. Around 9 p.m. that night, my mother-in-law passed away after a long fight. She really wasn’t supposed to die, she was expected to be moved into a rehab place that next week, but she died.

As bad as that was, my father — who WAS expected to die — died the next morning.

What a nightmare that was! The wakes were held in the same funeral home in two different rooms at the same hours so people could pay their respects at both. Then the services. I had inquired about having both together by Fr. John made sense convincing me otherwise. He said that they both had separate baptisms and the both deserved their own service going home. So they were held the same day. I think Daddy’s was first — 8:30 a.m. at the funeral parlor; 9:00 funeral Mass and on to the cemetary. Then we came right back to the funeral parlor, 11:00 a.m. funeral Mass for Ma and back to the cemetery. For some reason my sister-in-law decided to rent a hall just for Ma’s people and we were at Mommy’s for ours. It would have been so much simpler for everyone, including the people that came to both, to have it all at the hall. But SIL refused.

Many, many changes have happened over these 17 years. I was married but going through stuff that I thought could be fixed with discussion and maybe therapy. Apparantly my best friend thought otherwise since during my mother-in-law and dad’s sufferings, she’d been working hard to seduce my husband and succeeded. It took me two years to realize it! It amuses me to see that she, his new wife since September 2009 (and young enough to be one of our kids), tells people how they’ve been lovers and friends for more than 17 years. Doesn’t she realize that everyone who knows us all, think that that’s aweful and rotten? It’s a good thing that I haven’t cared in years and years. I had my breakdown, went to therapy and came to today with joy in my heart.

And I AM happy and healthy and look at every new day with thanksgiving in my heart for the blessings I know I’ll receive that day! I LOVE life and I love my family and friends and look forward to all the joys ahead of me!
